Bench breaking in a stock 61 261 after a complete rebuild, and noticed a very small dark brown ooze oozeing down the hot manifold side of the block in 3 places eminating from the exposed head gasket edges. Don't know if its just the head gasket material "bleeding" in the heat? Head is flat, compression 160-165 all cylinders, no water in oil, no oil in water, heads retorqued. No symptoms of blown head gasket or other problems. Has anyone experienced this? Not to worry???Thanks in advance for any comments.

Was any sealer, grease or other stuff put on head, headgasket or block? What headgasket was used? Could it be rust from coolant passage? Some are closer to edge of gasket/head so path to edge is easier than cylinder or oil passage.

It is not unusual to have some stain at that point. An asbestos type head gasket is installed dry. A headgasket with the copper or steel outside ans asbestos filled inside gets a sealant.
