Old wise ones. Are all '55, '56 and '57 passenger car chassis the same? Do they vary by year and/or by model? Will a Nomad fit on a hardtop or sedan or station wagon chassis? Thanks.

The 1955, 1956 and 1957 frames are all different. The rear springs are mounted in a different manner on a 1956 compared to a 1955. The 1957 front frame horns are box section . The convertible frames have an X in the center. The 4 door hardtop frames have extra body mounting points. Nomad, wagon frames are the same as regular sedans. There were three different companies that made the frames so that should be taken into consideration. One type is easy to spot as it is a solid box section rather than two channels welded together,

Thank you very much. I have a '56 Nomad with a severely rust pitted chassis. If I understand you correctly, I need a 1956 Nomad, wagon or sedan chassis to replace mine. I cannot use a 1955 or 1957 even if they are Nomad chassis. Is that correct?
Thanks again.

To keep the car "correct" you will need a frame from a 1956 post 2 or 4 door, 2 door hardtop or station wagon.
