I'm not sure my vaccum advance is working. Should I be able to see the distributer move when I rev the engine. Is there another check I can do. I don't know the effect a non working advance has on engine performance at 50 miles an hour. I have a feeling my advance is not working. any enlightenment would be appreciated.

At a very slow idle, apply the throttle and watch the distributor. It should move. If it does not move you can disconnect the vacuum unit, install a piece of hose, and suck on it with your mouth. You should have resistance and the distributor move. If there is no resistance to the vacuum and you can suck air---its ruptured.

Ray, I guess one would have to have a goodly amount of SUCTION, say...like an Okie or a Arkie?
Also Bill Denman in Euless Texas rebuilds vacuum advances, he advertises in the G & D.
