I'm installing the factory radio and was wondering where does the radio power box mount and where does the speaker mount on the firewall? The heater is already on the passenger side of the firewall, so something must go on the center hump and something above the steering... does it matter?

Thanks,
Mike

What you need is the Radio Owners Manual. I have them.

The radio works fine, I just need to secure the box and speaker to the firewall. If someone has a 39' with the radio, can you tell me if your speaker is centered on the firewall or above the steering console.

Thanks,
Mike

Last chance, if you want it to be correct you need the Owner's Manual.

From your question, I wonder if you have a correct 39 radio.

The speaker/power supply is mounted above the steering column opposite the two knock out holes
on the firewall. You need a vent/grille on that
side to cool the large tubes in the power supply.
Better take Ray up on his info....

The box mounts above the steering column and the speaker mounts either on one bolt in the center between the box and the heater or (if it's like a '38) in the fiber board panel between the two sun visors. There should be a fish wire on the drivers side above the toe board to pull the speaker wire if you have the ability to mount in the headliner.

I would suggest getting the manual from RAy...there were three different radios used in 1939 only one used a firewall speaker (had dual speakers) and all had a dash mounted speaker and had push buttons.

Thanks PDXJoe and bigbth, I had to pull back the fiberboard, but it's just like you said, everthing is there. The radio was in the trunk when I got the car and I always wondered what those knock out plugs were for. They didn't remove them when they installed the radio.

Thanks again guys.
