I`ve been searching the adavanced search , as I remember seeing the coil cap off in pictures and I thought it just twisted off to replace the coil. Mine is loose but doesn't budge either way to unlock the top cap. Am I right that the cap comes off and I can look for a new coil to attach? Mine is leaking and I`ve put in a new style coil but would like to get original....have the old one tie wrapped up to the heater hose and it looks pretty funky like that any suggestions .....Thanks...David PS....my cousin says to drill a hole in the coil somewhere to drain the oil out and mount it back up for looks and forget about replacing it !

Am I right that the cap comes off and I can look for a new coil to attach? Yes, the cap can be removed from the existing coil so that a new coil can be installed. A special tool was used to remove the cap from the coil.

This should cover pre-war electrolocks: ![[Linked Image from i27.photobucket.com]](http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c169/hayre/100_2550copyresized75final_zpsed788752.jpg)

If you're successful in removing it without destroying the coil use a dremel tool to remove the locking tab on the electrolock. That way you won't have to fiddle with it again in the future.
