I acquired an OEM condition Rack recently. Just had storage creep and a bit of surface rust. It was stiff in the Joints like me, but I loosened it up. I wanted to sand it to paint ready but somewhere along the line someone coated it with a preservative that felt like Silicone. It appeared that Chev. didn't use any primer. Just black lacquer, one coat. On a lark I took it to a Powder Coat shop. They are going to Sand Blast it to white condition and PC it Black for $150.00. A very fair price compared to me doing the labor/Prep and cost of materials. Comments please! Al W.

Yes, powder coating is a good way to go. The only issue will be where the joints are riveted. But you can always touch those up with paint.
