Gentlemen ; need guidence and enlightenment---my 216 cu. engine has been rebuilt ,valves altered for no-lead gas etc.-etc. On running around town ( to break in the engine) as I pull up to a stop sign the engine dies --sometimes it light's off quickly--sometimes I have to give it a shot of starting eather,I've increased the idle a bit and that seems to help --but on occasion it still dies. Is it the engine,--carb.(althought that's been rebuilt)electrical system --or is this "normal break in" activity--or does the operator has a short between the ears ???

I guess I'd first check fuel pump pressure and then, carb float level.

Hey John,

I experienced the same frustration, and mine was even cutting out on steep hills too, Yikes!!

I ended up blowing out the fuel line and then I rebuilt the fuel pump...No problems since then...knock on wood.

Also check for a vacuum leak especially on the small line going to the vacuum advance and the wiper hose.

did you make sure rhe timing is on the money
I had my 216 rebuilt with the same level
and it was running terrible until I made sure the timing was exact

Yes-timing was the first thing I checked---it was right on the money !! As in my reply --got almost a half turn out of the vacuum line ,along with tweeking the idle , took the car for a spin yesterday and that seemed to fix it -----I hope !!
