Is the speedometer gear on the front half of the U-Joint pressed on the U-Joint shaft? Can it be removed and put on a new U-Joint? What's the best way to do this--take it to a machine shop?

Thanks,

Jim

The speedometer gear is pressed on to the U joint yoke. It can be removed with a puller and re-pressed on the new yoke. Just be careful so as not to damage the gear as new ones are difficult to come by.
