OP Chevy1778 Backyard Mechanic Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 229 Wisconsin, USA	I have my timing set properly but I have a pinging problem above 45 mph. In order to correct it I have to pull the retard a little to stop the ping but the power drops. Do I need a cooler spark plug? Currently using a Champion D-16 spark plug.

Junkyard Dog Tech Advisor ChatMaster - 25,000 Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 29,863 Eagle Point, Oregon	The information on the web site (.040" spark plug gap and 18 degrees timing) only applies to the AC-C86 or the AC-C-87 spark plugs, which are the correct modern replacement plugs for your engine. With the D-16 plugs you might want to set the gap as recommended for that particular plug and set the timing back to the original 12 degrees.
