It appears that pure gasoline is now a thing of the past in our area and ethanol is now in all blends. I am adding Marvel Mystery Oil to the tank of my 1937 Master Delux and was wondering if there are better choices?

seafoam my favorite. i used stabil in the past and this seafoam is still effective on gasoline i put in all our car tanks last fall. however, i believe the only effective use for ethanol is in miller lite. mike

I don't know the exact cause but when we drove our 74 Nova with the 350 engine to, on, and from the HAPPY DAYS TOUR V I went up one grade on our gasoline and I did get a little better mileage on the entire trip.
When I drive the Nova to the 50th Central Meet I'll also keep track of both grade prices and see how that works out.

I was using 91 octane since the lower blends had ethanol but now I've been wondering about that too--there must have been quite a variety back in the 30's!

Ethanol in gasoline is a horrrible mix! The only winners are politicians, large corporate farmers and EDM. All of the rest of us are the loosers. In reality, the entire mess is criminal!

Now Sipper (or guzzler or Skipper) be honest, ethanol is okay in beer even if it doesn't belong in gasoline.

Thrasher Lucas Safeguard Ethanol Fuel Conditioner with Stabilizers / Fuel Mix E-10/E-15/E-85...Is my choice... Sure Ethanol is garbage, but what are you gonna do...? We're pretty much stuck with it... Add a little "Marvels"...Can't hurt anything but you're wallet...I add a little, that or some 2-stroke mix, when I think of it... Drink the Miller, and "ferget about it".... "D

Hey Chipper: There is no Ethanol in the beer that I drink because I don't drink beer with garbage in it! Now they are talking about going to E-15 and that is going to be even worse.

I don't see any complaints from members in heavy corn growing states. Maybe ethanal is getting a bad rap, anyway. Just think about it; 10 percent means that the rest of it is 90 percent. Heck most of those customers in those bars that were receiving watering down and/or substituted cheap booze could hardly tell the difference. You think the engine is that discriminating? Hardly. Not even a hick-up. I say lets crank up the ethanol to its limit. 50 percent? Don't know. It would at least cut down on the use of foreign oil. Right? Isn't it a know fact that the only thing ethanal harms is rubber. Just replace the rubber. Cheap. No big deal. You're welcome, Uncle Ed. Send the check right away. I'm broke. I'm just jerking y-all around. Charlie

Ha Ha OK Charlie, I'll try and remember to get that check in the mail asp! Maybe there won't be much ethanol this year, we're flooded out here. I hope I can still get some though as my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my 08 Chevy pickup have never tasted straight gasoline. I did have to put a new turn signal flasher on the Jeep though, I suppose the ethanol ate it up! Seriously, neither one of them have had new plugs, fuel filter, or any other engine part other than 1 air cleaner element and fan belt on the Jeep. We can still buy straight gasoline here in Iowa and I think it should be every ones choice whether they want ethanol or straight gas. I still use regular in my old chevys because of the fuel pump diaphragm but If I had the new ethanol resistant diaphrams in them I would use ethanol.
Ed

The difference between 10% ethanol and 95 octane non ethanol in 1 of my cars is 60 miles per tank full in favour of the 95. Even though the 95 is a dearer fuel here it works out to 50 cents a tank saving as well. Tony

Tony, That's a heap of difference. I don't know how big your tank is but with ... say a 15 gallon tank that would be around 4 miles per gallon improvement using the 95 octane non-ethanol gasoline. Amazing? Tell us; how did you conduct the test for miles per gallon? For instance, did you empty the fuel system (well, at least drain the tank) and then use only 10 percent ethanol and again empty the system and use only 95 octane non-ethanol gas? (Either non-ethanol before or after owing to the sequence you preferred.) That it would seem to me as the only way to tell the true difference. Anything less would lead to guesswork, supposition and/or error in the math. Charlie

It wasnt a very exact measurement process, filled tank with E10, set trip meter and drove until estimated last vapours noted meter and put 1/4 tank of 95 then used most of that filled with 95 set meter, drove until estimated last vapours again. there was 100klm difference in meter indication. As I was in town both times when it was about to empty tank I wasnt game to go until dry tank (with spare can full in the trunk) which would have been more accurate. Tony
