Need help id-ing oil filter canisters for early 50's Chevs. As I recall....
The all Black one was the real factory accessory one.
The Blue w. Orange lid was typical dealer install one. Seems like this is the one most often seen. Has reproduction p-115 decal available for lid, etc.etc.
What was the yellow body and black lid one?? Who mfg, etc.
I'm sorta stating and sorta asking on the first two. Also wondering what years were these three various ones available. What years would be correct application?

my 50 chevy 216 with 21,000 miles has a fram filter. It looks to be orange with a black lid. the filling station sell a decal set for the fram filter. the decals on my filter have deteriated quite a bit but are the same as the ones the filling station sells. Tom

The 1946-1949 were black and yellow for the dealer installed. This would include oil filter installation kits that were available through parts houses, etc. that carried AC line.
The oil filter history listed is very complete but does not mention the 1946-1961 factory installed filters were black.
In 1962 the 235 engine came from the factory with a (black) oil filter as standard equipment.

So the yellow body with black lid ones for 46-49 were AC's and could be dealer installed accessory OR owner installed from Parts place. Thanks, this is GREAT info.
I'm not sure of parts place names back then....but back then version of today's Schucks, Pep Boys, etc.
What's the value of one that appears to be in good shape - not dinged up, nice paint, etc.???

I'm wondering What's the value of one that appears to be in good shape - not dinged up, OK paint, etc.??? Sort of what you might call "nice driver quality." Would need some attention to be called "show" quality.
Please give me some idea of value of cannister as described. Thnx.

Bill,I am in the process of replacing my bypass filter canister,the one you are talking about"not correct for my 48",paint is quite good.If I were to sell it maybe $100...Now if I was looking and wanted it badly,as I normally am I'd pay more,but I am an easy catch

The one I purchased is not dinged up, included lines to engine, BUT does need paint to freshen it up. I paid $35.00 for mine.
