i notice on my 40' coupe that the key switch light does not work. when i got under the dash, i did not see any bulb, socket, or wiring to the switch.
did chevy omit some of the models with this light?
i even pulled the switch out for a closer look and there was no indication of a light fixture ever being there, not even a wire from the harness being cut out.

any answers guys?

This wiring diagram shows an ignition switch light. It's in the dash itself on my '38, not the switch. I don't have a picture but it's a separate cavity that the switch fastens to that has the socket. Maybe similar with the '40??

The 1940 Special Deluxe has the lighted ignition switch as this picture shows (from a 1940 Special Deluxe film). The light is indirect, from a bulb in the vicinity, reflecting through the gaps around the ignition switch.
Don't know about the Master 85 and Master Deluxe.
