Looking to find a way to remove the column shift linkage from the steering column. Nothing in the book about what has to be taken apart. I have removed the shift rod, but how does the gear shift rod come through from the engine compartment ? Any help would be appreciated.......

You might consider asking on <chevytalk.org> or <H.A.M.B.>.

I would say that the clamps holding shaft to column, both under hood and under steering wheel, must be removed and the the steering wheel has to be removed and shaft pulled up into the passenger compartment.

These pics from the '39 shop manual might help. You could look in the shop manual for more pages on assembling the linkage. ![[Linked Image from i27.photobucket.com]](http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c169/hayre/100_5190Shifter1939shopManual_zps91cd2cb3.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i27.photobucket.com]](http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c169/hayre/100_5192Disassemble1939VacShifter_zps9ce11a31.jpg)
