What is the correct size for the fuel jet in a Rochester carb on a 1962 1/2 ton 235 engine. Or where can I find that info ? Thanks

I don't know the spec's for the correct original size, but a friend and I both have a lean out situation with a couple of rebuilt carbs. It's been suggested that the problem is todays gas and a larger jet is the answer.

The Rochester carbs for the 235 6 cyl in the 50's & 60's are quite simple. Rebuilt my self and was very careful to clean all passage ways. Put a 62 235 from a 1/2 ton into a 51 hardtop. Starts & runs good slow but breaks up at around 30 mph. Done a lot, coil,points,timed,swaped dist advance even new wires to coil. Did one the same swap a few years ago and seams I went through the same thing. Then I think inlarging the main jet did it then. My main jet is stock at .056 . Thanks.

When the Rochester first came out in 1950 the main jet for a 235 engine was a 58. In 1959 they re-tweeked the engine (timing, valve lift etc.) and the 56 was the standard jet. The jet will not cause it to break-up. That could be a point problem, condenser, or fuel supply. Also the 1962 engine can not be run with the old style maniafold to carb. insulator. If you installed an after market set of points and the proper (flat) soring was not installed and just the weak ground sping is used the points will float at about 1500 RPM.

I'll change the condenser, points have flat spring and are steel only without copper ground like original. It sounds like they are floating but at alot lower rpm. Thanks for all the help.
