The 41 manual says the stabilizer links should be, "tightened down to the limits of the threads on the bolts. This is very important to prevent the nut loosening on the link bolt threads."
The first picture shows this.

My question is does this also apply to the rear shock absorber link shown in the second picture?

Thanks, Mike

Its difficult to say as the parts available today may no be made the same as Chevrolet made them.
On the rear th should be a rubber bushing above and below the bracket. You may have it that way but it dosen't lok that way.
On the front the center bolt head is at the bottom and the threaded stud on top. There is much more thread showing than what a genuine would have shown.

Hi Gene,

The pictures do not show that there are rubber bushings and washers on the bottoms. The front links are a lot tighter than I had them before I read the manual. I will change the bolts on the front so the nuts are on the top and bolt heads on the bottom.

Thanks, Mike

P.S. I have at least one old set of front and back links. I will check their lengths before the threads for comparison. Thanks for the reminder of the potential for different length links.

mike - If you'll try some black poly sway bar link bushings, I'll bet you never use rubber again. Then, no rubber to compress before the bar becomes effective. It has been said on the Forum that it is equal to going to the next larger diameter sway bar, which is true.

I've used 'em for years with excellent results. Made a big difference in the way the '41 handles (much safer and more predictible).

I use 'em on the shocks too.

Just a FWIW - -

Gaither,

I will switch frames in the next two years so will update to the poly bushings then. Going to concentrate now on getting my rebuilt engine working well. I also just installed new rebuilt front and back shocks and will replace 30 year old tires, mounted on 15' rims, ASAP. Going to try some radial blackwalls from common local sources (Discount tires, Pet Boy, Sears, etc.). Will go back to 16" rims someday?

Thanks, for the reminder, Mike

P.S. Just noticed you live in Chattanooga. I will have to look you up if I decide to pickup a set of Cooker Tires someday.

Mike, don't wait till you go to Coker's. Surely you can find another excuse to come thru here sooner. I'll be glad to meet you anytime and with a short notice. You can even drive this ol' '41 with an expensive 216. Heck, I might even send the 216 home with you! My number is 423-364-9194 (9:00AM to 11:00 PM).

Good luck with your Chevy.

Mike On any stabilizer link make sure the grommets fill the hole in the frame. I'm talking about the rear. I put a new set on the rear of my '41 and shortly after I kept hearing a noise. It was a click, plink, tick type noise when I was on rough ground. After much grief (I don't like rattles) it was the link hitting the side of the hole. Put a bushing in it. Some things are hard to find and very annoying. JIM
