how can we identify if we have the correct wiper motors in our kc 1/2ton?.. other than patent numbers in the trico casting, there are numbers printed on the cover...the left side (probably not the correct unit) is "ksb 600"...the right side is ksb 404-1g... any suggestions, please?.. epi

I can give you a little info, I think. The driver's side wiper that came out of my '46 1/2T and looks to be original, is marked "KSB3891G" (the "G" was a little hard to make out, but to the best of my ability, it looked like a "G"). That number is stamped with ink on the oval cover that's just next to the controls. I also have a NOS accessory passenger's side wiper motor, but that one doesn't have the part number marked on it. The paperwork in the box with this motor states that it's for a '39-'46 Chevrolet truck, so I would guess that the driver's side would also interchange with the '39-'46 truck. Unfortunately, the ends of the box are missing and the paperwork doesn't list the part number. The motor is identical to the driver's side unit, except the controls are on the other side. Hope this helps a little. -Bob

thanks, bob... my parts book only runs through '42, so I can't tell beyond that, but, the left is shown as p/n 598989 for '39-42...the right or auxiliary is p/n 985459 also '39-42...I assume these were made by trico... maybe someone can cross-reference the numbers?.. epi

The SKB3891G number is the Trico number. I checked my '29-'49 Parts manual and 16.064 / 598989 (MOTOR, Windshield Wiper) is for "1939-1946 ALL". Under 16.061 (WIPER UNIT, Auxilliary Windshield), the part number in my book is 985483, not 985459 as you stated, and is listed as being for 1939-1946. This "unit" includes motor, arm, blade & all parts necessary to install. I don't see a listing for the auxiliary motor only, in my book. -Bob

As per the 1950 Trico catalog--1939-46 truck
driver side motor-KSB-404-G for factory replacement and KSB 600 for universal replacement.
KSB-404-IG and KSB -600-IG for pass. side.
When replacing an original with the universl a stem kit is required.

Thanks, Gene. According to those numbers the motor (SKB3891G) that was in my truck wasn't the original afterall, but it sure fits like a glove! Wonder what it was intended for originally ? -Bob

thanks, gene... looks like we have the correct factory replacement auxiliary unit...but, while the ksb-600 works okay, it doesn't have the speed control... anyone have an extra ksb-404-g wiper motor?.. epi

Chevrolet, You might also want to keep an eye out for the Trico model I have on my truck (KSB3891G). It has both Off/On & Speed controls and is a perfect fit, both for mounting & for the header cover. My 2¢ ! -Bob

thanks, bob, for the good suggestion...we're hopeful that we may find the correct part somewhere, but it's reassuring to know that there's an alternative... epi
