Well since the experts are busy I'll try to help.
If the hood fits well, don't mess with the hinges bolts to the body.
First, invite two friends over. Gather up some towels or something to stuff between the back edge of the hood and top of the cowl. Locate a really big screwdriver. Draw straws to decide who has to use it to pry off the hood springs. Now the hard part is over. Remove the two bolts into the hood on each side. Lift off.

IMPORTANT !! HAVE SOMEONE HOLD THE HOOD UP OR USE A PROP WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SPRINGS OR THE PERSON REMOVING THE SPRING MIGHT LOSE AND ARM OR HEAD.

As was said, there are many ways. I use thick 5/8" flat washers stuffed into the coils of the springs to get 'em on or off. I use a lot of washers. Works for me.

Many thanks for all of yall's input. I think I'll try the stuffing the springs with washers method first. Sounds like the least dramatic.

Hey guys,
Don't forget, Austin Ott, the 47-48 TA designed and sells a hood spring removal tool. His phone number is in the G&D in the Technical Advisor section.

Isn't it nice to have options? So, to each his own.
As for me, I'll stick to the washers. It enables me to simply lift the springs in or out of position with no chance of 'em flying out and skinning anything up (he-man with brains!).
