Does someone have the trough depth + dipper gauge tool for the 235 engine? number J - 1541.

I just want the measurements please , so I can make one . I want to get this engine right :)

Also , is the 216 sump ok on the 235 engine??

Thanks for your time.

Can't help with the dipper tool measurements but the 216 and 235 oil pans (sumps) can intercahnge BUT when a 216 is used on a 235 the troughs have to be lowered 3/32".
Now I remember seeing the post but forgot to respond to it.

Thanks very much , I didn't know about the sump interchangeability . It seems all my sumps are 216 , so you have saved me some grief there .

Thanks very much :)

Rusty,

Do an Advance Search on the term "Gauge." Ask it to check the time period from Newer Than "7 Months" to Older Than "1 Month." Use the Display Name Search as "Mike Buller." This should give you all our latest discussion. A rule of thumb would be to check what were the heights before you did any adjustments. This could help alleviate any confusion on proper depth since it would assume that the last guy working on the engine new what he was doing.

For 216 engines the dippers just barely draw oil from the troughs to create a fine mist that lubricates things better than heavy drops of oil splashing. Remember to trust your manual!!!.

Good luck, Mike

Thanks for the guidance on the advanced search engine.
Thanks for your time and suggestions . I appreciate your efforts.

I have a 216 in my truck and have been wearing it out over the last 15yrs of daily driving. I found a NOS 235 short block and have been gathering the extra parts required to build it as a complete engine (generally , new 216 bits are unavailable here)

The tool references I have found so far only gave a part number , no dimensions. It's the little things that make life tricky , eh. Thanks again.

Dusty
