OK Guys, I have a new problem.
I recently had my trunk re-done at a local auto custom & re-upholstery place as close to original as possible, but they used a 1/8" thick fiber board instead of the original glorified tar paper divider between the rear seat back and trunk.
Now they can't seem to get the seat back to set as low as it originally did - as in the upholstery tacks and part of the springs are visible through the rear window - so my question #1 is; Did they screw something up when they installed that thicker fiberboard divider behind the rear seat?
When we had all the seats out last Summer to apply sound deadener, etc., all the seats reinstalled perfectly - except for a couple missing metal rear seat lockers, clips(?!), which had broken off.
Question 2; Should the rear seat back be pretty much flush with the rear shelf? I know it was originally.

OK! Since the response to my questions has been a deafening silence, I thought I would let you know that I have answered my own questions - if anyone is interested.
The rear "package shelf" should NOT be flush with the seat back! The problem was that these 'yutses' apparently rolled up the excess fabric - after removing excess cotton from the middle of the rear seat back - and "Hog Ringed" it to the first available horizontal rod instead of pulling it down to the second one, which is about 2 inches lower.
Ah well. Live and learn. I was going to make a scurrilous about "rednecks", but I'll refrain.

Gene(and Gator),
Yeah, I hope to have it re-painted sometime next month - after I cash in a couple CD's. And I'm going to suggest to the paint formulator my friend uses to match colors on repair work, to ease off a little on the 'metallic' portion of the formulation. Present day metallics last forever. In the 40's, they didn't and were apparently more subtle than they are today.
Oh yeah, and also, now that I thought I had solved the problem of rear seat back height, I still have reservations. It still seems higher than it should be. Do you have any suggestions?
Gator. Tell all the jokes you want 'cause I ain't the kind of doctor that can do you any good - unless you're looking for advise on lubricant additives. It's just a 'nickname' I've had since I was in High School. Oh, and also, I was born and raised on a farm (in Minnesota) and had a "Red Neck" every summer until I finally left to go to college.

The seat will stick up about 3 inches above the package shelf.May not be slid down on the "hooks" if more than that. The lower cushion would need to removed and lower part of back rest swung out nad checked. Also do the lower back rest wire loops line up with the bend over tabs on the body (or where they were),,,Is the top of the back rest "overstuffed"?
