On my '39 probably as delivered new - There were two horns mounted on a cross bar that attaches to the two rods bracing the radiator support to the firewall. These were the country horns - real loud! Also attached to this unit was a horn relay. The town horn was the standard horn that bolts on the intake manifold with two bolts. Also, some cars had the plastic dash, two position switch on the dash below the windshield. Mine didn't have that switch, but I found a NOS one later in Hemmings. The country horns were light gray with a blue tint as was the cross mounting piece. The town horn is black. No one had messed with this car as I remember it from about 1950. It also had the lighted mirror on the right side, but no radio. It had the accessory steering wheel, too which was in bad shape even then. Can't say about '41 details, but I've seen them on many cars. Hope this helps,,,,Joe

There is no such thing as T&C horns for 1940 and 1941--They offered a T&C SWITCH that mounted on the instrument panel - this was an accessory. The switch looked like a 1939 T&C horn switch but it functioned differently. In the Town position one of the stock horns would blow-in the country position both horns would blow.
The 1939 T&C horns were the accessory "dual air tone horns" for the country and the factory installed beep-beep horn for the city.
There were two styles used -mix in production in 1941 and 1942.Both used dual horns but one style had a short projector horn the pointed straight down and had a blended beep-beep tone.....The other was a sea shell type horn -it had the more modern sound sound and looked like the typical horn used in the later '40's thru '70's.
PDxjoes discription of the '39 horns is correct. Was the last car (and truck) to have the long trumpet horns as an accessory.

Was a Town & Country switch used in 1937 on the dash? It is only shown in the 1939 Catalog even though the horns were available in 1937-38.

The Town and Country horn switch was first used in 1939.If the accessory dual horns were installed in 1937-38 the original little horn was disconnected and usually removed. The 1939 switch and wiring could be used on any previous year but would be considered incorrect. Also very difficult to find the switch, knob amd plate.

The accessory horns themselves turn up on eBay quite often.

I have a 37, and the town & country horns have been installed (not sure if originally), and the town horn (beep beep) is activated through the horn button on the steering wheel. The country horn (honk honk, God this is corny but's how they sound!) is activated by a small, separate button switch on the bottom of the dash. Does this sound like a correct 37 installation? The small original horn is present as well.

I don't think that is original but it sounds ok. I think, as Gene indicated, they originally had a switch that one way was for city & the other position was for country, and the horn button served both sets of horns.
Just think that if the town & country horns were an accessory on new cars today, they would probably have 20 sensors to sense the population density/sq. mile, relative speed, ambient air temp, CO2 levels,etc.,etc.. and a computer to operate the horns, and the additional sticker price would only be in the range of $19,999!

It is not the correct 1937 installation. The button on the side of the column was never offered by Chevrolet (1937 DID NOT have a Town & Country" horn)...When the dual horns were installed on a 1937 the beep beep horn was discarded.....You can do what you like with the set up you describe would be considered incorrect for VCCA Judging.
