Hello fellow chevy enthusiasts... I just acquired a 1940 Master Deluxe Coupe and am in the process of documenting what I have. Being new to old Chevy's I welcome all the help I can get.

I will post pictures of my car soon. (It looks like a very nice survivor vehcle....)

The two number tags are as follows;
Appreciate help in decoding......

Tag on Firewall
Style 40-1527
Body J-861
Trim 97
Paint 273

Tag on passenger side floor pan
21KHD420xxx

Also, I have several defective parts which I hope I can acquire with some direction of from this group.

1. Choke cable appears to be broken at the knob (although it pulls in and out the choke does not move). Not sure if this can be repaired or if a new cable/knob combination is required. I haven't dug further into this issue, since I just acquired the car but thought I would throw this question out to the group

2. Throttle cable does not work (too tight to move!) Cable may not be original as the knob is round and black and could be off of a lawn mower for all I know. I definitley need a new orignal beige colored plastic throttle knob and cable. Hopefully this item is still available for purchase.

3. Shift lever knob is missing. Hopefully relacement knob is also available.

4. Car is not charging! My neighbor helped me troubleshoot and the issue appears to be a defective voltage regulator (although the regulator appears to be relatively new) Can regulators be rebuilt, or is is better to replace???

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Bob

40-1527 = 1940 Master Deluxe club coupe. Also could be called a Sport Coupe or 5 passenger coupe
J-861 = it was te 867th M.D. club coupe body produced at the Janesville Fisher Body plant. J indicates Janesville
Trim #97 = tan mohair interior.
Paint #273 = ???? don't have that number listed. Have 282 -283 check again.
21 KH D - 21 = assembled in Janesville, KH Master Deluxe . D = assembled in April.

For parts see the Filling Station catalog "on the net"
Shift knobs are being reproduced.
A voltage regulator can not be rebuilt. Ground the field terminal on the generator with the engine running at a fast idle. If gen is working will indicate a full charge rate on the ammeter.

Thanks for response. Happy to know that it was assembled in Janesville as I am in Wisconsin (Soldiers Grove), also a nice coincidence that the car's "birth month" was April as I just picked the car up several days ago (i.e. in April).

I doublechecked the paint no. and it is either 273 (black) or 278 (ruby maroon) The car is presently maroon in color so I'm thinking it is actually 278. Also supporting this reasoning is the person I bought the car from is a professional body man and he said he repainted the car in the late 80s or early 90s for his father and said that he did not paint the firewall, which is maroon and closely matches paint job. (This car was previously owned by Max Ruffert of Saukville Wisconsin. Max passed away last year and his son sold the car to me).

My neighbor has a collection of Nash cars and my mechanical resource. He tested and confirmed that the Generator was
good and the Voltage regulator was either defective or the wrong part, so i plan on replacing it.

I'll check out the filling station for throttle cable and knobs.

I would like to post pictures of the car, but don't use a photo web sharing service.

Thanks

Bob

Grest looking car. One you can enjoy right now rather than taking 5 years to restore.
