Kevin, you better watch your step! I was the one who sat in the last row in class. Looked out the window a lot. However, usually heard everything going on around me. You can learn a lot just by listening!!

The number will be on the top left of the top tank on the driver's side facing the driver. Charlie

Yes,lets talk radiators, the numbers are very hard to see, with angle and the hood in the way.The 48 was out to have that hampton coach burlap removed from the trunk,Pro Bono, inlcuding paint touch up ..The interior guy must have liked my business...Any way,I thought there was "an allegation" that my radiator was less then correct and in my warped mind I couldn't remmember what the #'s on the radiator said ,last thing I wanted is to go in search for a new radiator after all these years..Got the 48 home today, grabbed the magnafying glass and was re-assured with these findings 321098 A-02 .48.J

...What were we talking about...? 48 engine bayCan we please stay on topic? Thank You I'll have look back a few days to figure out what the heck the actual topic WAS...But I can tell you I have an Original radiator...Or at least the top half, and it says: On the drivers side: R-02 47C....Passenger side: HARRISON 311595 Please stay on topic...! I'm done with this "THREAD" or threats...I thought this was a "club" where members can converse and be a "club", unlike HAMBer's...We're discussing useful information here...If there's a problem with "staying on topic" why don't you just end this thread, altogether...? I apologize for being so rude, but this really is ticking me off...

Pass the peace pipe. Or peach pie...pass the peach pie! You got a recipe for that? ;-) Folks gotta realize that this is like a big old dysfunctional family here, and we get to asking over each other's health and family and such. Doesn't really hurt anything, but somebody has to feel important and tell ya not to do it... Love this thread! I'm just getting back to working on my '40, and I need the nice photos to help me get it back together right; could also use an engine, radiator, transmission and such. Anyone have any of that, let me know. Thanks.

Richard, there are a few related threads out there discussing factory correct 48 parts and accessories...Its amazing how when you think your getting so close but in fact your far far away from that 100% correct vintage Chevy
On another note...Wheres all those pics of an installed A/C S-6 oil filter canister...Johnny and myself couldn't be the only proud owners of this correct accessory...If you can not post on the site e-mail it to me and I will display it......And yes all the zip-ties are gone

Okay, I know...Were all friends here...Even though we "rub" each other the wrong way sometimes...What do you got in that pipe there anyway, opps, I meant pie...Sorry... I just can't get the "hang" of installing that oil filter S-6...I think Gene is with me on this...There was just no need for it...Just keep your oil changed...And quit collecting "stuff"...Pretty soon you'll have St.Christopher's all across your dash

Kevin,I have done a good amount of research on the buypass filter system and as you are ,there are still many people on the fence about the usefullness of the unit? With so many different manufactures for it and most all vehicle brands useing them back then,it made sense when I bought it...the unit I have is for an early 50's vehicle but I also have the correct 48 unit and would like to see whats out there, before I paint it.Buy the lack of responses, theres loads of people on the fence with you... I rember MR MACK tell a story of removing the old oil from the canister with a turkey baster!LOL!The down side to the 50's unit ,the drain hole was removed Like Russell said, even the judges won't know what it is,ok with me

Bruce, sounds like your eventual desire is to be "judged" at car shows...If that's the plan, it looks like your headed in the right direction...! You'll surely deserve it...! After all that work, time and money, I wish you luck...I once put in a load of work and time in on cars, but all I got was 3 to 5 in San Quentin...The nerve...That Judge didn't even give a trophy or nut'in...

Back to the radiator support caps for a quick question. I've looked in the appropiate Master Parts Books and cannot find these listed. Are they in there under a different name or what? Thanks, Alan

Looks good. Other than the AC and 501 numbers being larger than my 1950 cap has. Letters in general are larger. I would give it an A-

I looked at various pictures and searched through the parts book and find nothing on the core support fillers. Don't remember them also.

Gene, Not so fast, there. As we're all following this thread with bated breath to see just how we can learn and help CC get that engine bay completely correct, your answer puzzles us. Read on. If that there cap is an A- and, assuming there is such thing as and A or A+, then it would logically follow that you think that it is incorrect for CCs car, wouldn't it? Ani't that what you a-saying? CC asked if it were correct or not. He didn't ask if it was close to correct. He evidently was seeking confirmation that he had the holy grail of radiator caps. Yet you danced all around the question and said that it was close and warranted an A-. Glory! If the correct one is an A then it follows that this cap, an A-, is only a little better than a B+. Owing to CCs intent, it seem, on getting that engine bay 100 percent correct it would then follow that he should continue looking for a correct (A) filler cap and send that old piece of junk to me. Oh, yes! I'll stick it on the 41 project and not ask if it's correct or not. Will too! CC, Just say the word and I'll send you my mailing address so you can mail that thing to me. At your expense, though. I don't really want no money in a mere A- cap. Charlie

Radiator support caps........ Mine were on the car when I bought it, and looked like they had been there since day one. Now I'm going through ebay and finding pictures of 47s-48s for sale with pictures of the engine compartment. These aren't necessarily "correct" or "original", but we can get an idea if the radiator support caps were common or not. Well, I only found two.....both had the caps. So here goes..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1948...t=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item257d5b41fd ---this one's got'em http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1947...t=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item33819bca44 ---here's another This is from the for what it's worth department

Good work Ken! I too have looked through my reference pictures. All three, one '47 and two '48. I'm satisfied they're for real. They all look too similar not to be factory.
