Hello all, can someone tell me how the oil distributor is held in place on a '27 Chev?, is it threaded or pressed? I had a look inside and I don't like what I see and need to address it but have to go about it the right way! Thanks for your help!

Mickey, The oil distributor on your '27 has a threaded brass fitting that is inserted from inside the block up through a hole in the block just below the intake manifold. A ring nut holds it in place along with the bellcrank for the manual timing. A brass 'T' threads into the oil distr. fitting with lines to the oil filter and oil gauge. Each oil line aimed at the pan troughs is secured with a screw. Dan

Thanks Dan, I'm trouble shooting my oiling system. I don't have any pressure to the gauge. I've shot air into the guage and it worked, so I'm going to work my way thru the whole system, ending up at the oil pump!

Mickey, I assume you are not getting any oil pressure- a condition that makes one concerned to say the least! That has happened to me with both my '26 and '27 (twice). It was traced to the oil pump in two cases. There are two vanes in the pump that ride against the pump cavity. The vanes are forced out against the cavity wall by a spring which fits between them. If that spring breaks or weakens over decades of use the psi will fall off. You may still be getting some oil into the troughs but probably inadequate. Dan

Thanks Dan, yea, no pressure to the gauge is my problem! I've taken the oil pan off and blown out the lines. Have not looked at the pump yet. Will look into it soon! Again thanks!!

Another test you could do is to open the guage line into a separate can and BRIEFY start the engine, this will give an indication of oil flow at least. Tony

Thanks Dan and Tony! I've rebuilt the pump, tested it outside of the car in a bucket of oil, works great and reinstalled it...still no pressure! I have the oil pan off again to look at the oil distributor..except that I can't get it out of the block. Done everything short of rounding off the brass head but guess I'll keep trying! Does anyone have a spare connector that goes into the oil distributor?? Just in case.
