Hi, i´bought new rings and now i have a problem. It seems that the old one were fixed with 4 little brass bolts - two holes from them you can see in the picture. Is it necassary to fix the new one too? And when yes, how? I cant drill from the outside because there is the big ring. Has anyone changed the Synchronizer Rings?
Hmm, i thought myself, but it is very difficult with new bolts in the old holes. The new rings have no bolts and where would you drill?? I´ve fixed it now with Loctite 648 - a'High strength/temperature retaining compound' http://www.henkelna.com/industrial/product-search-1554.htm?nodeid=8797927964673. Think, will work
In the 41 manual replacing the brass ring (we have been calling it cone) is not a repair option. It calls for replacing the whole synchronizing clutch. Have you been following are discussion under the Mr. Goodwrench - Technical chat site? The subheading Mechanical- engine, trans. etc. has a post called "Transmission removal" with a lot of good info. Sid and I are rebuilding our transmissions.
Now why would they sell a reproduction part by itself if it wasn't possible to use it. I know of other parts in the original Chev manuals that say they are not serviced but replaced and yet we have parts to repair them today.
