I've got my 36 std. steering box apart and it looks like it had a cork seal and metal retainer at the end of the pitman shaft. Has anyone come up with a modern seal to take its place? If not does anyone sell the cork seal? I don't see anything in the FS catalog. Thanks

Maybe an O-ring might do the job.

Measure ID (shaft size) and OD (bore in casting). Go to your local bearing supply store and they can help you. Did that on my 52 and no leaks.

An o ring works fine. Have installed an o ring on 3 steering boxes and have no leaks. Now how about sealing those spring washers on the cover assembly so the oil doesnt leak out there!

I went to a seal supplier and got a modern seal and pressed it in place. Will see how it holds up. Thanks
