I'm looking for stuff for a gear change. Although I readily see the merit, I can't put aluminum pistons in a freshly rebuilt 216.
Thanks, men - -
I apologize if I stole this thread, although I think we all have learned from it.

Chevgene,
This was an excellent post. Would you consider the '48 "wider" dippers good insurance ? I have the oil pan off and and have already adjusted the oil tubes. (posted in '37-'42) And would consider any up-grade to rod bearing lubrication peace of mind. Would you be kind enough to offer the part number for these particular dippers ?

Most rebuilders use aluminum pistons.

The Chevrolet part number for the wide dppers was 3835884. While the sides of the narrow dipper are straight the wide dipper looks like some one twisted a screw driver in a narrow dipper to buldge the sides oout. They fit 1937-1953. Its a good idea to replace the dippers if the rod bolt/nuts have been tightened several times. The 1933-1934 also had narrow dippers. The 1935 and 1936 had their version of a wide dipper. The wide mouth dippers were sold for replacement on the 1933-1934 after aboout 1936.

Chevgene,
Would you check my post in '37-'42 under 216 oil pan gauge settings part 2? There is a good pic of the dipper currently in this engine. It appears to be a "wide" dipper as you just described.
Your input would be greatly appreciated.
