I am trying to get my 1928 capitol stake bed truck going this summer. The clutch is stuck after setting for close to 40 years. Any suggestions ?

Method that has worked for me is to start the truck in gear drive it until it heats up (may be around the property, parking lot, neighborhood or ?). Occasionally push in clutch pedal and accelerate and decelerate to put pressure on clutch plate. The heat and pressure eventually has released the plate from flywheel.

My '28 AB Canopy Express also had a stuck clutch from sitting over 40 years. I tried driving around and it didn't break loose.

Another technique I tried was to use a 2x4 to hold down the clutch pedal and with the tranny in reverse (and the engine NOT running), I dragged the truck across the concrete slab with a come along hooked to my Dodge 2500. The rear wheels and engine turned, so clutch was still stuck.

After dropping the tranny to inspect things, I found that the clutch disc was not stuck to the pressure plate, but there was rust on the splines so the disc could/would not slide away from the flywheel.

I took the opportunity to put in a newer style throwout bearing while the tranny was out.

Working fine now.
