I am trying to find the measurements and construction of the two-piece seats and the backrest. I am in the process of restoring my and I cannot find the right measurements to build new steel springs.

If you find out, please let me know... my '31 pickup has a one piece seat that I am certain was just tossed in at some point. Hampton Coach sent me a quote for seat covers, but I did not ask about new dimensions... maybe someone there would know.

I am working with Hampton and they do not have the information. I have also contacted VCCA contact Forest Sweet and he is looking for the information as well. So far - no data. Will let you know if some has an original two-piece seat measurements on the springs and back-rest.

Somewhere in a back issue of G&D there are factory drawings that were for body makers like station wagons. It has all the dimensions for seat height and position, etc. for the 109" wheelbase chassis. It probably is a '32 - gas tank is at the rear instead of under the seat.

Snyder's Antique Auto Parts stocks some seat springs for 32 to 35 but they will work to old springs or a simple sketch for most any year. They built a seat back and cushion for my 28 Roadster from a sketch I made on an 8 1/2 x 11 in piece of graph paper and the results were exellent and the price was quite reasonable ( less than $100 each ). They are on my Sources List www.cybersurfers.net/~herb/sources.htm or you can contact them at www.snydersantiqueauto.com Herb

I've also purchased from them and their products are excellent!

I have been searching through issues of G&D back to about 1985 and have not found the body maker drawings. Does anyone else remember seeing them?

OK, I'll admit that this is a long shot, but I've also got a '37 Chevy pickup that actually has all of the seats. I'm not positive, but I think that all of the years between (and including) 1932 and 1936 (high cab) had an external gas tank filler neck. For some goofy reason the later 1936 (low cab) and 1937 had the gas cap under the passenger's seat... then in 1938 Chevy put it back behind the cab on the passenger's side. I think it's odd that I just happen to have and love both of these years! Anyway, unless someone out there knows that it's pointless, I could see if my '37 seats will fit in the '31 this weekend. The lower cushions seem pretty long, but they might just be the same!
Come to think of it, Hampton Coach would be able to tell us if these two years use the same seat patterns. I just sent a note to them through their website, they seem like responsibe people, I'll let you know what I find out.

Elizibeth (I think) from Hampton Coach called me the other day regarding my question about '31 sharing the same seat patterns as '37... her source has no records earlier than 1934 so they can't say. I think if they were to pull the patterns for both of the seat covers they make they could answer the question, but I must be missing something.
Sorry, my hunch didn't play out.
