I need to be on the look out to purchase a new generator cut out (6v of course) for my 1931 this spring and would like a little help on the correct Delco part number that I should be looking for when at the swap meets.
Could someone help with a little direction on part numbers. Thanks!! John Lanning

The original part number was 828391, but there are several later part numbers which will also work on your car and are shown as replacement or service parts for your car in later catalogs. They do show up on ebay periodically. Hope that helps.

My old parts book shows Generator Circuit Breaker (cut out) for 1929-39 all exc. HA,HB,JA,JB,COE as part number 827843. (grp 2.319)

Do you have the old cut-out? If so, I can convert it to solid state.
If you don't have a core I can furnish it and it will be converted to solid state.

Sorry folks but have been away for a while....thanks for the information on the cut out numbers and options. I was able to find another relay that works well but may consider a diode conversion as another replacment for a backup. I appreciated your advice! John

I'd put in a diode in series with the cutout as extra insurance. If your cutout sticks it can fry your generator, wreck your battery, and start a fire.

I had the Filling station do my cutout to modern specs w/diode on my '32.It uses the same original cutout housing but internally it has a diode from an alternator.Just be careful that your generator does'nt generate more than 10 amps or so or it will melt the solder on the diode and ruin it.I found this out the hard way.Having melted three before we figured it out.The Filling station and their outsource were very patient and helpful in determining the problem.The old original cutout fried my gen.and ruined my battery.

Diodes generate heat and need a heat sink to dissipate the heat.
