I rebuilt a 261 cubic inch engine and I'm having trouble with rebuilding the carb due to no metal tag on the top. The year of the engine is a 1955. My problem is finding a rebuilding kit for the carb with no metal tag. Thank's for your help.

The repair kits are all the same. They even come with two different cover gaskets-one for the 1950-51 and one for the 1952 and up.

They are available from...www.fillingstation.com.....for $12.50,their part #FS-366-covers 1950-59-will be OK for any year 261 carb....Also are available from NAPA etc.

The kits for the model "B" carbs are all the same, they don't contain any of the stuff that makes your 261 carb different, if in fact it is a 261 carb, most have been pulled and replaced with a 235 carb...but not to worry, they aren't that much more powerful anyway. One way you can tell is when you get the carb apart, look on the main jet for the size. the 261 used a larger jet than the standard 235 model "B" also the venturi was just a tad larger on the original Model "B" carb for the 261. If you want to know all about jet sizes etc. look in the parts catalog.

Thanks for the help guys, but I also have a carb base with a mount lug broken. What's the chance of welding it or finding another base or carb? Maybe a 235 would be easier than a 261 being there's not much difference in power.

The base could be repaired if the vacuum passage is not involved. The 261 base has a slightly larger throttle bore. The 235 bore is 1 9/16" and the 261 is 1 5/8"
