does this site go down for maintenance often? I tried several times last night but my computer would just time out after a
minute of waiting. no other sites I went to hesitated so it not my computer.

BTW: tried to start my car after charging the battery up yesterday and it would not hit. the starter seems to draw all of the current to turn the motor. the charger says the battery is charged up but it turn not as fast as i think it should.
any ideas on what to look for first?

thanks for your input.

Not often but occasionally the site hiccups.

Check to make sure you have a strong spark at least at the coil. Better at one spark plug.

I had the same problem last night as well. Actually, that problem occurs on my computer six or seven times a month. However, when that happens I can go to any other site with no problem. Seems like the problem only exists on Chevy Chatter.

Bubba,

I didn't try to get on last night but I had the problem this morning. I agree with J.D.

On the car not starting, just remember that if you have sufficient compression, properly mixed fuel, and enough in-time spark, the combination will cause the cylinder(s) to "hit" when cycled fast enough. Check each item out.

Good luck,

I also had an access problem. I was in and logged out and then when trying to get back on could not access the site. Perhaps our hosting site is being overloaded at certain times.

I spent a fair amount of time this weekend with the hosting company. I submitted a trouble ticket to them on Saturday morning when I first noticed a slowdown. Then it went completely offline.

Apparently the HOST was trying to fend off a DOS attack (Denial of Service). In the process they drastically reduced the bandwidth capacity to our server. That's why some of you still connected, while others didn't. At one point our server actually froze up and everyone was locked out. That required a complete re-boot.

One option that they proposed to me was to "double" our service parameters with them. That translates into almost an exact doubling of cost. I don't know whether we can afford that and still provide this as a "free" service to the world. With only limited advertising, our Chat budget is subsidized by VCCA membership dues.

Another option that was mentioned a couple of months ago, is to shift more forums (all year-groups?) into the Members Only area and only allow public folks to READ there, while VCCA members could READ and WRITE.

I'm interested in hearing from non-VCCA members on what their thoughts are about this. Naturally the objective would be to get more folks to join the VCCA in order to continue to use these services.

I think that possibly moving more forums(all year groups)into the Members Only area and only allow the public to read, but not post may have a down side-your members may lose out on picking up some hints, ideas or information that non-members may be able to contribute.
Considering that the fees charged by the club, are supposed to be put to use for the good of fellow members, surely a bit extra to subsidise the website won't break the bank?
If the fees were kept at an acceptable level(especially for overseas people),I'm sure you'd gain more memberships, especially if the magazines for overseas members got posted first, and I'd possible consider re-joining.My 2 bobs worth anyway.

In the last couple of years the G & D has been put online for members and there is now a non G & D membership at reduced fee, I am not sure of the $ difference at the moment.

Hi Tony,

I checked it out and it seems only available to foreign members. Perhaps it would be something that all members may be interested in. It would save shipping cost which could be put to better use-such as a hosting site upgrade. I had trouble getting on last night and again this AM.

No problem here. Sometimes a little slow but I never log out.

Site seems to be stuck in first gear-no neutral-make that reverse-as I seem to be getting nowhere.

Guys, I'm on the road this week. In Nevada. Only have limited web access -- but I've tried to watch Chat's performance. Today I couldn't get on before the problem went away. I was in a gondola at 6,200 feet elevation.

Just so you know, last week our Host provider "suggested" that we UPGRADE our account (which would DOUBLE our memory).... Frankly that's what fixed our problems two years ago when we added more memory (RAM).

So.... I might have to proposition the Board for some more money. I'll try that on Sunday when I make my presentation to them.

In the meantime, hang in there and let me know whenever you have a really tough time logging on... especially > 5 minutes.

Thanks.
