I don't think you needed the red wheels & WW tires to attract attention. Looks like someone already has you in their sights by the looks of the bullet holes.
Nice to see another 4dr Fleetline out there.

I dig 'em. Now if you could just get a fedora and cigar (and a pinstripe suit) you'll complete the look. Gangster staff car! parking

In all seriousness I hope you can wind up keeping it and enjoying it for years to come. I know how it goes, but if you can swing it...good luck with it. It looks like a solid, fun old Sportmaster.

Forget the "tommy gun"...That went out by the mid-thirties...The question I had was that the rear wheel looks to be a bit "forward"...Don't you think...?

I've had WSW tires, red wheels with caps & trim rings or wheel covers on almost every vintage car I've owned for 60 years (including this ol' '41). Many were not vintage at the time.

Yeah, I'm a redneck!

That was also my concern as soon as i saw the picture, that rear wheel should be centered in the wheel opening. Its like somebody made new springs for it and the springs got reversed with the center bolt being in the wrong end of center.

Check the wheelbase as to what its supposed to be from the facory. Its definately a put off to a buyer, visually.

HHm yall got me wondering now,I'll have to check the spec on it and see what it's suppose to be,it's been like that ever since Iv'e had it,but that don't mean it's right. As I have found other things that's not been right. Thanks for your concerns,I will investigate...let yall know what I find out...

I think it is the angle from where you stood when the picture was taken. Measure from the center to center of the wheels. Should be 116", or close.

I agree with you Russ. How can it be off with a solid hook up between motor, tran, torque tube, & rear end. There is some variation as the rear end goes up & down over bumps and the drive shaft would slide in and out at the universal connection, but just sitting on level ground it got to be right. Of course I have been wrong b/4 in my analysis of matters such as this.

Hm to be centered or not to be is the question, let's see some of your pics,to see what they look like,I guess it would have enough movement in the drive shaft to move forward a bit. Thanks for all the reply's comments, concerns.were gonna get this solved,I'll be out there today as weather is supposed to be nice,I have to clean and repaint the other wheels so I'll be lookin to see what I can see.may have to take the u-bolts loose and drop it down to see where it's suppose to be....

I think that the wheels are not centered in the wheel well openings. I know our '40 they are forward like the picture shows. I know that the AD pickups are the same way.

well me and my son measured center to center of front spindle to rear axle and it measured about 117",if it were at 116" it would have been forward even more,so what's going on here...of course I was using a cheap tape measure,so that's prolly where the difference is,so it's prolly right.116"Just try not to look at it too much, did anybody else look at there car to see if they were like that.anyone....

I found a couple pictures of our '40. Not a good view but you can see the wheel is not centered in rear wheel opening.

[Linked Image from pic50.picturetrail.com] This is why I was pretty sure yours IS right. This was taken at ALMOST (mine is a little more to the right, based on lining up the front vent window up rights) the same angle and distance, I believe.

Yep, I agree with Russ. I uncovered my two 47s and looked at them. Both cars had the rear wheel slightly forward in the fender opening.
Beautiful car Russ. Hope you get as much enjoyment from it as I have mine over the past 40 years. My 3 kids grew up riding in the back seat of the Sportmaster. They are all grown up and gone but the car is still with me.

Took the ole chev out for a drive and man did the new old shoes get some attention, everyone was waving and giving the thumbs up,went to get gas and this guy pulls up on a motorcycle and just fell in love with it.old cars are attention getters...she steered a whole lot better and easier with the bicycle tires..600x16 Cokers. If the warm weather sticks around I'll be driving it alot more...
