Hi all.
My dad and I are re-doing the dash in his 47 Fleetline. I have the paint for the dash wood-grain and brown for the steering column. I'm trying to find something close in a rattle can for the light, grayish tan you find inside the glove-box door and around the speedometer and clock.
Anyone tackle this one yet? If so, do you remember what you used?
We have a couple that are close, but not quite it.
Any ideas would be awesome.
Thanks.

I forgot the brand of paint I used, I think it is was PPG or Omni, but either way, the code number i used is DIU 29121. Use that code next time your at the paint store and see if they can look it up. I had them mixed some up for me in a spray can. I used it for the back side of the glove box, and also for the edge of the chrome trim on the Clock and Speedo. I would post a picture of the painted items, but depending on the monitor and screen color, it would differ a shade or two. Hope that helps

buy a clock delete plate on ebay that's in excellent condition. take it to your local, friendly auto paint dealer and have then mix you some paint to match the paint color on the rim for you. they'll put it in a spray can for about $25.

i forgot mention that you can actually use the trim ring off of the delete plate on your clock with very minor modifications required.

Look at Krylon #2504 Khaki Gloss (Beige) and American Tradition by Valspar #54971 Cocoa Bean. The Valspar is a plastic enamel but I have used the product b/4 on metal and it seems to be fine. It appears to be closer to orig color than the Krylon.

Thanks everyone. I found some gloss nutmeg that is almost dead-on. I'll give it a try.

I am about to that point on my 47 I have looked a little for the krylon and valspar but have not found. What is the nutmeg paint that you found? What did you use for the brown on the steering column? Thanks Denny

I used Krylon Leather Brown. The paint when sprayed has a slight rust color in it vs the cap color which made it a closer match to original. To locate a dealer near you go to www.krylon.com and at the top of the home page click on Retailer Locator. A list of stores should come up and you then click on a store name to find one close to you. Same for Valspar. Go to www.valspar.com then to retailer locator, then enter zip code. I bought mine a local Lowe's. Good Luck

My dad found another can to use instead of the nutmeg. This one is pretty close for the gauge bezels: Rust Oleum Gloss Protective Enamel #249032 GLOSS KHAKI.
For the steering column and the dark brown on the chrome we used LEATHER BROWN 17081/100015A00 Ace Rust Stop indoor/outdoor.
This leather brown Ace hardware paint is pretty good, but the krylon might be better. We didn't see any around here to compare.
Good Luck!
