can i use an engine oil stop leak in these motors? if so any specfic brand or type? i have a small leak at the rear of the motor when it gets hot. i would like to get thru this season (summer) before ripping down the motor to repair.the motor only has 67,000 original miles on it as near as we can figure. also-
i know there is no oil filter on these motors, but is there a sump or low spot that i should remove when changing the oil? or does the pan have to come off?.
thanks for all your Help
Joe

Chevy six's from most of the 30's used oil slingers in place of seals to control oil leakage at the rear bearing. That worked to varying degrees. No, you can't some miracle additive to stop it. The oil passages got plugged up by the use of non detergent oil from that era. Drain the old oil and replace with 10W-30. Live with leaks till the rebuilding.
