Some photos of members trucks and cars show the fuel filter installed after the pump before the carb. This is unsightly and I may have installed mine wrongly by fitting it before the fuel pump. What is your advice? Our summer over here is over and I had plenty of vapor lock problems this summer with my truck, especially when parked after a run in the open.

Like you I do not care for the filter being exposed as that is not the way it came from the factory in my '34. At least that is the information I have at this time. So I installed one right at the tank out of sight under the car. It has not caused me any problems. It keeps the fuel line & pump clean of any bad stuff. But the experts here (which I'm not) may have a correction.

I think you have arrived at the best solution. However, check it frequently and see if it is taking any water out, along with objects larger than a nat. Placing a plastic filter above the engine is NOT a safe solution.

Placing the filter just behind the pump will lead to more vapor lock probles. The line just to the rear of the pump and fuel in the pump its self is where the vapor lock (boiling gas) occurs. It does not occure in the line from the pump to the carburetor. where the gas is being pushed, not pulled.

I believe he said the filter was placed AT the fuel tank.

I may have installed mine wrongly by fitting it before the fuel pump. Try AT the tank...I see some members mount them just before the pump...And they sometimes get away with it, but it is warm there...Check your line fittings ( using a "line-wrench" ) to and from the pump for tightness, also.

Thanks all for your advice. I will move the filter from before the fuel pump to just after the tank.Enjoy your spring weather.
