My '32 manual states that the U-joint is lubricated from the transmission and additional lubrication is unnecessary...

I'm no expert, just quoting the manual.

You have to start with some lubrication, which is the amount Chipper has advised. From then on the lubrication in the U-Joint cavity will work its way into the differential. The transmission will allow fluid to refill the U-Joint cavity.

That sounds good to me. So on a '32 the trans overflows to the free wheeling unit which overflows to the u-joint cavity which overflows to the diff which over flows to the ground.

Is that pretty much correct???

Love these old cars !!!!!

Ha, That is pretty much how it works if they are worn but there is supposed to be a seal in the torque tube to stop it from going into the differential. BTW, it usually goes from the diff to the brake shoes then to the ground when the diff gets too full.
