http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=783128I get nervous driving over 50 miles in my old car. I think the Ausies have a little more self confidence than us Yanks. 90 mile straight away? I'm impressed. Pretty cool story. And...pulling a camper to boot.

Well, isn't this odd...? Everyone's "stars" suddenly disappeared... Not really. It is all part of the process of Chevy Chatter and the stars were only supposed to be there for a month or two as a test.

The "stars" that appeared near/under certain members avatars...As I recall, Gene was a "5 Star General" ... I see the star your referring to...I beleilve Mr. Barker placed that there to signify he thinks that it is an interesting thread and we should "check it out"...

At the top of threads you'll see a drop down box titled "Rate This Topic". You can rate a thread up to five stars. We used to be able to rate each other as well with starts but that now seems to have gone by the wayside.

I'd noticed that "rate this topic" before...Never tried it, though. I always kinda thought, who I'm I to judge what's interesting...? What might be very interesting to me, don't interest "jack", to owners of other years...Maybe...

I'd imagine it's a bit easier in a car that's been slightly rodded as per the link, but certainly there are many folks down here that like to get some miles under the tyres.... the guy who rebuilt the motor in my '29 has taken his original condition '29 tourer around Australia 3 times and each time towing a travel trailer. He is heading off again in a few months. When I say his is original, the only significant mod it has is the he has fitted a 1929 four speed gear box to the car which helps with towing.

While the rest of the crew may be in the same predicament, it's almost always the pilot's job to arrive at the crash site first.

Amazing, my hat's off to ya. You Aussies have always been known for being able to rough it. I gotta admit ,I'd be a little hesitant to start out in a 75 year old car even if it appeared to be like new. Every time I drive my old car I'm always thinking about ...what if.. No AAA the middle of the "Outback"

Perhaps you should join in on a six cyl tour and gain a little confidence. Some I have been on have averaged 350 to 750 miles in five days with the longest run I can remember being 98 miles one way. No one was left beside the road and there were very few breakdowns. Some regular posters to this site participate so you know there is plenty of expert help if needed. Also many bring along spare parts and when something is needed theres a good chance its not far away. As a bonus you will get to see things not generally available to the public.

I've been hoping Steve would join us too. Time to show him how to really get enjoyment out of that little cream puff of a Chevy he has!

(Note: The following is all in fun and meant as nothing more. Please have a sense of humor. Thanks, Charlie) And Steve, Owing to the fact that in case of a breakdown (yours), you'll probably receive only limited help, if any, in the parts department that is, from the other tourers. So, you will need to load your trunk full with extra, relatively modern-day parts that are not older than 1956. If you don't, you may have to suffer embarassing shame of going on the "hook." (Touring vehicles may include an antique wrecker, who knows. Check it out in advance. And, make sure you have your mobile phone with you.) If you were to breakdown, maybe someone will give you a ride. That way you wouldn't have to cut the tour short and miss out on the next Crackerbarrel stop! (You'd probably be better served if arrangements for this last bit were made in advance. Some people may have high standards when it comes to associating with cheaters (the engine swapping kind, that is) they may tend to look the other way as they pass you by. Not really.) I'm sure the other tourers will be helpful with advice and concern and do all they can to help you get back on the road, though. Those touring folk really know how to enjoy their cars and foster great comradry and appreciate association with one another. Do too! Just look at the pictures and read the articles in the G&D. If we could ever figure out how to get all the women to ride together... well, we best not go there. I was merely think of how they like to talk with each other and all. Nothing more. But any suggestion on this line of thought could get out of hand quickly. I stay in enough trouble. Do too! Tours and Tourers are great! My hat is off to all those who participate and help organize and administer them. Such touring plans are not easy and require a lot of time and sacrifice. Good luck, Charlie
