Hi All

I am new here from Long Island NY. I came across an old barn find of a chevy master 85. I dont know much about this-- can someone help me get some info on the value and if they are good cars?

The condition is pretty nice.

Reference your Master 85. Give us a description, such as body style, condition, and most important, any numbers you can find on the car and their location. Any numbers you can read from the engine and where located. Check under the front mat under the passengers feet for a tag and give us that information.

When this is done I predict you will start getting some usable data.

just a bit of info. on the 1940 Master 85.
In 1940 it was the "thrift" car in the Chevrolet line-up. Above it were the Master Deluxe and Special Deluxe models.
The car left the factory with no ash tray, lighter, arm rests or right sun visor as an example. It was the last Chevrolet passenger car to have a solid front axle and leaf springs. Has single acting shocks in the rear where as the upper models had double acting. The drive line was the same as the oter two models with the exception it had the more desireable 3.73 rear axle ratio. The top models had a 4.11 ratio. Also of the three lines the production was the least for the Master 85. They were good cars and simple to repair.

Hello- The condition of it is really nice. I can't read the numbers that well.

I am wondering a few things:
- what is the value of something like this
- where can I find parts for it...can't seem to find a website
- Heard something about the engines and the way the oil is sent...it isn't that great and they aren't to reliable.

You are not providing enough information for vintage Chevy folks to provide you answers.
If the '40 was a 5 window coupe it would be twice as valuable as a 4 door sedan with a 2 door sedan in the middle. In any case a "barn find" requires alot of attention to wake it up from ??? years of sleep. That attention is often costly but can only be determined by thorough examination from a knowledgeable person- an older auto mechanic for example
Barn finds of a '40 Chevy might be worth $2000 to 10,000 in as is condition with a convertible perhaps twice that.
The motor in that car is as reliable as any for that era. Parts to maintain the car are readily available. Log on to Chevs of ths '40s online catalog for example.
My best advice to you- find an auto mechanic or local vintage car business to assess your find. Dan
