I just helped a fellow member with the same problem on his Imperial Landau. Took some time to get things right. The depth of the shaft coming out of the pinion gear was critical since the carrier has to clear it. In his instance the carrier case was from two different cars and from the way it looked half of it was from a much earlier differential. Somewhere between 25 and 29. We put it up in the air on jack stands pulled the axles, u-joint housing, the carrier, and finally the shaft. A machine shop busted the better gear so had to match a lesser quality of gear.
