Another incredible set of pictures were sent to me today, this time from ozjim in Australia. Jim writes "Here is the first photo of Rowston’s Garage here in Cowra. This is the 1934 parade of the General Motors Vehicles. Basically GM would travel town to town through the rural areas, giving a unique display of the cars and models offered for sale that could be bought through the local dealer.

[Linked Image from i150.photobucket.com]

This is the following year, 1935...

[Linked Image from i150.photobucket.com]

This is a photo of the dealership. As you can see there are all of the various makes from the GM family on the front window as well as everything else. The Rowston family still have a number of businesses here in town just no longer the GM dealership. Old Tom Rowston was quite a salesman! There are still a good number of Chevrolets, Buicks and Pontiacs in the district. I got these and other photos from his grandson. On another note he was also the McCormick Dearing Tractor agent and once sold 24 tractors in one order. He then had them all delivered at one time (a great photo of the train pulling into Cowra Station) and then he organized all the Farmers who bought them to pick them up together and again parade through town.

[Linked Image from i150.photobucket.com]

Thanks for sending the pictures, Jim! Anyone else with old pictures is always welcome to post them up to our thread, or PM me if you need assistance.

And how did this happen?? A 1938 over a bridge. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks to be Holden bodied...

Another great photo for you early four fans. Is this Chevrolet's first race car??!! A 1914 Royal Mail is in for some tough competition from it's stripped down competitors in this 1915 race. Photo from Shorpy.

I asked about this photo in the 1912-28 section and got no response... so I'm going to run the risk that it is what I think it is. From a 1915 visit to Hartford, the President of The United States in a 1913 or 1914 Type C Classic Six.

A '41 goes in for a chassis lube. If you've ever done this on a driver, you know why there's one guy in the picture dirtier than the other!

[Linked Image from i150.photobucket.com]

Any idea what they're doing on this 1942? My guess was aligning the head lights, but I thought they did that against a wall. Is that a tool for the job?

That is indeed a headlight aiming machine. They were used to have the lights illuminate the road without blinding on coming drivers. Texas required headlight aiming as part of the safety inspection up to the 1980s. As we mature and bright lights temporarily blind us when night driving is seems to be a good idea to require headlight aiming again.

How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!
