Russell, great looking guard,I had to do some fab. work on mine before plating the catch was very worn..
I have heard back from both vintage battery places and there are no black caps available..Painting could be the option

Looks great, Russell...But, imagine my surprise when all this time I had thought if one was to install this "bumper guard" that you had to release it every time to open the trunk...Little did I know, that ( I guess ) you only need to release it to be able to side in and out the spare tire...! laugh

Yes, I thought the same thing. When I opened the trunk and it cleared the guard (up), I thought I did something wrong. laugh

I have to put my guard down to raise the trunk lid on my 4 dr Fleetline. I can't see anywhere to change the mounting angle.
Strange !!!

Yeah, one of these days you'll forget to lock that trunk and your spare tire will pass you on the road... laugh

The trunk on my '46 Fleetline clears the folddown. Maybe I'm wrong but it is my understanding that the purpose of the folddown was to protect the trunk latch assembly from damage. As we all know there were a lot of cars pushing other cars to get them started in the old days and I remember having to jump and down on front and rear bumpers of cars to get them unhooked after the overrides. In those instances, the pushing car could/would smash the hood latch on the "pushee." the folddown (which is notably higher than the other rear bumper guards) helped prevent such trunk damage. I think that it was designed in such a way so as to interfere with normal opening of the trunk. Just my opinion.

That's why I'm glad I live on a hill...! Ah, the good old day's when pushing a car with a dead battery didn't do you any good but "mash" your hood latch and just compound your problems...
At least it was proof to your boss, as to why you were late to work and might evoke a bit sympathy...But, not likely. laugh
