I was in the market for a good 235cid engine for my project and thought I had found one. It was out of state and to make a long story short it was shipped to me without my go ahead. Once I had it I was able to do some research and it looks like I have a 261cid on my hands. Casting number 3733950 on the front right (pass) side. I think it is a 261cid from 54-55. I am looking for any info I can get so I can sell it and market it to the right buyers. Any help on this would be great. Thank you.

I'd keep it! You can't visually tell the differance from a 235 (well you can if you know where to look) Another 26 cid and won't cost anymore to build than a 235. If you decide to sell place and ad with Inliners internationals. http://www.inliners.org

I have a 54 -261 engine that I will try to use also, looks rebuilt. What all from my 53 235 with insert rods ,solid lifters will work on the 54 -261?
Head, pan, oil pump ,etc.
Or who can I find out from? I tried on the 49-54 thread but never got a conclusive answer.

From 1954 Engineering - new parts that fit 261 only;
pistons, rings. wrist pins, conn. rods (inserts interchange), stronger rocker arms and larger diameter sronger push rods due to higher lift cam in 216, also stronger valve springs for the same reason. The 261 cam was used in 1956-1958 235 truck engines. 1953 cam has smaller journals and will not work in a 261 engine.
235 head will work but the head must be drilled for the 261 only steam holes.

Thanks a lot.
I have several 235 heads.
Guess I will have to trial and error?
Oh, What are casting numbers for a 261 head that will work well with the 3733950 block? lifters?
