Well I just ordered my interior and should get it mid to late Oct. Has anyone got any experance with the 1931 Hampton Coach interior that could let me know what I am in for? How are the instructions? Any do's or dont's.

Well after my post I noticed the same topic on an other page. It looks like I am in trouble. Thanks for the warning Bill. Any body know any good books on the subject?

I have installed several Lebaron Bonney - Hampton Coach [same company] interors and the biggest problem was the headliner, getting the tacks even to keep it even across the bows . there instructions are real good, on the 31 seats you have to stretch the material quite a bit but in is nothing to be afraid of.If I can do it anybody can. :

Had the same experiance with the headlining.Tried to pull it too tight. If I were to do it again I would check it after tacking each bow and go back and adjust. The same any place that is nailed ( thats 90% of the installation ) just tack in two or three places check and readjust or align as necessary. They also furnish extra cotton padding for the seats so the seat covering can be filled out as when new.It will require more tacking than one would ever expect. Also gives good opertunity to check all internal wood.Another thing to consider is putting sheet plastic behind the headlining so as roof leaks develope ,as they always do,the headlining will not be stained.

Hey thanks for the input. The plastic under the headliner sounds like a great Idea. I am also lining the doors and body with a sound material. :) :p :( :o

The doors would also be a good place to have plastic behind the trim panels. Also be sure the windlace that fastens to the body to seal around the doors is installed so it lightly contacts the trim on the doors. This is the only form of weather strip used on these cars ,helps keep out drafts and will leave no visible gap when viewed from inside.

As the kit is being installed, make sure the garnish moldings fit before having them refinished. They can be easily scratched if you have to force them into place because of extra thickness of door panels or where upholstery material overlaps in corners.
If you have old Chevrolets, other old Chevrolets will find out where you live.

Good point on the moldings. I have them primered but haven't painted yet. I think I will wait.

YEP MATT, THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO IS MAKE SURE THEY ALL FIT GOOD AND YOU HAVE ENOUGH ROOM ON THE DOOR SIDE PIECES TO SLIP THEM ON WITHOUT TOUCHING THE TOP AND BOTTOM PIECES. I HAD A UPHOLSTERY SHOP PUT MY HAMPTON COACH INTERIOR IN MY 32. THEY DID MANY OTHER CARS BEFORE MINE WITH HAMPTON KITS,WELL THIS TIME THEY HAD A 350 POUND GORILLA DO MINE, AND WHEN IT CAME TO PUT THE 900 DOLLARS I PAID TO HAVE THE GARNISH MOULDING PHOTO PLATED IN WALNUT LIKE THE ORIGINALS, HE PUT THE TOP AND BOTTOM DOOR PIECES IN WITH NO PROBLEM?? WELL THE SIDE PIECES ON THE TWO DOORS FIT SNUGLY AND A PERSON WOULD HAVE TO VERY CAREFUL AS NOT TO TOUCH THE TOP AND BOTTOM PIECES? NOT SO, THE GUY POUNDED THEM IN AND PEELED OFF THE WALNUT FINISH ON BOTH DOOR TOP AND BOTTON PIECES, PLUS TWO OTHES PIECES, SCRATCHED THE NEW WINDSHIELD TO WHERE I HAD TO REPLACE IT. ALSO HE DID NOT FOLLOW HAMPTONS INSTRUCTIONS AND I REDID THREE DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE UPHOLSTERY OVER, AFTER ORDERING MORE MATERIAL FROM HAMPTON, HE ALSO SCRATCHED THE PAINT IN A COUPLE PLACES???? ALL THIS TURNED OUT TO BE A 700 DOLLAR MAKE OVER. GOOD LUCK IN WHO YOU FIND TO DO YOUR WORK???LIKE EVERYTHING, YOU TAKE YOUR CAR TO PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD AND ITS AMAZING HOW MANY TIMES THINGS DONT GO RIGHT? IF ANYONE WANTS TO GET GARNISH MOULDING DONE PHOTOPLATED LIKE THE ORIGINALS, THE GUY TO GET AHOLD OF IS MIKE BENTON IN PATILLION NEBRASKA. HIS PHONE NUMBER IS 402-339-8283. THIS GUY IS A VERY HONEST AND FAIR PERSON TO DEAL WITH. THANKS DON :) :) :) :)

I bought 16" wide insulation that is thin bubble wrap covered with very heavy aluminum foil for insulation. To mount it I used 3M spray adhesive. In the top it really reduced the heat transfer in summer. I found it at the local Lowes Hardware.

HI DALE. YES I DID THE SAME THING AS YOU ON MY 32. I PUT THE INSULATION ON THE DOORS, QUARTER PANELS, COWL PANELS AND IN THE RUMBLE SEAT AREA. I ALSO USED THE 3M ADHESIVE AND THE WHOLE INSULATION JOB TURNED OUT GREAT. IT CUT OUT ALOT OF ROAD NOISE AFTER THE UPHOLSTERY WAS PUT IN. :) :) :) :)

I used a similar material from California Car Cover that comes in 4 x 6 ft rolls , single or double aluminum sided and also the adhesive and 2 x 150 in aluminum sealing tape. It really helps under the floormat and behind the firewall. Herb
