Pobably more for the Hot and Rat rod guys
Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great" I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

the WALLY in the cartoon strip needs an IQ test, a guest appearance on the defunct GONG SHOW and a current appearance on the JERRY SPRINGER SHOW featuring MORONIC NERDS .
You think that rat rod people should be restricteed to having access only to those vehicles that are , hauled carcases out of river beds , or from shooting ranges that have at least 1000 bullet holes.
There is enough stupidity inflicted on vintage vehicles by restorers as there is with rattus roddus.

No offense, but I believe you may be missing the point...It actually has nothing to do with his hobby of restoring cars, but rather the lack of interest in small talk on a subject these engineers couldn't care less about...

In an ideal world, yes, using the vast array of reproduction chassis and fibreglass panels that are available. That would then leave the original unmolested cars for to either be driven as is, or fully restored to as new condition.
I respect the efforts of our Rat and Hot Rod friends, its just a shame that in a lot of cases a perfectly good original car looses it soul under the hands of a angle grinder or oxy torch in the transformation process.
Regards
Ray

wow, I shouldn't type with a toothache... Anyway, what I meant to say is that stereotyping all hotrodders as a group of careless butchering hacks is purely a matter of opinion. Yes, I agree that someone who takes a restored car or a complete running survivor and cuts it up and rods it should have their hands slammed in a door jamb about a dozen times. Guys like that give guys like myself a bad reputation which in turn makes it hard to get the stuff I need to build my car. Yet, on the other hand, guys like that feed the guys restoring the cars back to stock with the stuff they don't use. But you tend to overlook the guy that buys a donor car thats complete and parts it out to restore a different car or simply because they deem it not restorable and part it out...
Rat rods, I don't and won't defend them at all. I probably despise them more than you.
We are all here because we like old cars. Name calling isn't going to do anything but cause friction...

Yep... and it (name calling) isn't allowed here... so keep it down to a dull roar. I did think that the "revised" Dilbert cartoon was absolutely hilarious. Better than the original. Although, being an "engineer", I appreciate the subtleness of the original.

What i don't understand about some of the rattus roddus i have seen, minus their roof inserts, body dropped down over the frame, top chopped so far its hard to see out, rust everywhere, no cushioning on the seats, ect ect.
How do they get these things licensed to drive on the street.????? Back in the 60's if the police saw one of these it would have its plates taken away and sent to the government saftey lanes for inspection.
Better yet how do they obtain insurance on something that looks like a rolling scrapyard on wheels. ???

if so the car needs to pass a certification safty test and get a certificate before license plate sticker is issued, so said vehicle can drive on our streets.
If the certificate is obtained fraudulantly, then the mechanic affixing his signature to that sheet is putting himself up to mechanics license revocation. Something they go to a lot of trouble and time to obtain. A mechanic without a license is worthless except as an oil- tire changer .
my insurance company DEMANDS an appraiser photograph and list the vehicles condition , appraise it value and then submit it to them for approval.

I was discussing that subject of "Rat-Rods" with a new friend I met on the H.A.M.B. You know he told me that even that topic is "taboo" on THAT site, and that their "moderators" frown on such garbage...

The HAMB will run you off real quick for even mentioning the rr word... I'm not sure how other states are but with historic registration in NJ, there is no inspection. A lot of guys use this to there advantage and poof, a rat rod is born. Steering u joints tac welded to the exhaust headers, bubble gum welds holding rear axles, etc... I'll never understand. :'(

Joe , its more than that, its out right scary what i have seen.
I don't know where these guys get the idea that that style is the way things were back in the 50's early 60's. Your plates would be ripped off the car by the police.

Mike, I agree with you and Joe there 100 %...Not only do they look like "junk", THEY are "Junk"...And it's scary to think they have the right to share the road with us...! I don't know if they're really trying to mimic something they may have thought resembles something (hot-rods) from the '50's or '60's...Maybe it's a kinda MAD MAX thing go'in on there...Guess, I'd have to ask "one"...If I could only keep from laughing...

Exactly... Where's Nader at when you need him. My wife and kids are sharing the road with them.
And it gets me when I hear people calling a nice traditional hot rod a rat rod. BIG difference. I've also seen some crude hotrods built over the years(my roadster was one of them) but there are some very fine and well engineered builds as well which thankfully are raising the bar.
The destruction of good vintage tin is sickening and with the influx of the rr fad, the prices for good cars are surging. The sad part is a lot of the guys building the rr actually seem to thrive on the negative comments and just make them rattier.
