My '34 1/2 ton is missung the vin tag. Is there anywhere on the truck that might have the vin marked so I can verify it? What is a reliable source for a replacement vin tag?

find an unrestored unrestorable one and take the tag from the firewall and rivit it onto yours and get it titled.

The Filling Station has new VIN tags. I am doing a 34 Master Sport Sedan. The VIN tag on my car is nailed to the wood floor almost even with the "A" piller. DO you have a title or old registration card? If so use the number off these documents...JIM

Hey Guys!

Your all talking about different tags! Mike your talking about the Fisher firewall tag which only came on Fisher cars, truck bodies were made by Chevrolet or a company which they owned at the time. Can't think of the name, Chip will know.

Jim, your talking about the Car ID tag, or the Chevrolet tag which is found on the inside of all cars, I think Trucks had this tag also. On fisher bodies this tag was found under the floor mat on the sill plate. On open cars it was nailed to the seat riser. In both cases they were on the right side of the car.

Also in the cast of all early cars most of the time the number which was on the title was the engine number and not the Car ID number which was inside of the car. Now, I do know of one car which did use the Car ID number for the title which is my 32 roadster and I don’t have the original tag.

So Ed, the tag you looking for is the Tag which the Filling Station sells, now I don’t know if a Truck would use a mater tag or not. But the numbers on your tag should look something like this, 05 DA 10 56654. (Chip you might be able to help better here since Bill has a 34 truck)

Now Mike, the firewall tag that your talking about is also made and I can tell you where to get one if you would like. I had a new one made for my 34 when I restored it and have talked with the guy about making more for me as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

glen rarick in NY says he has an extra laser etched floor tag for my roadster. I also bought a filling station one just to have.

Next time i see a chev truck 32---36 era i am going over that vehicle with an open beadie eye as to tags and firewall plates.

I always assumed the chevrolet trucks were the same builder as the cars. Since i bought this roadster i have found out more info than i can store in my memory banks.

From a previous post from Ed, I was under the impression he was looking for the serial number plate. This plate is attached to the cowl area inside the engine compartment close to the starter. It is held on with 2 screws diag. from each other...not thru the nail holes. This is for truck only...Joe

Fellas,
The 1/2 ton trucks had a single car number tag attached as described by Joe, on firewall held on by two screws (believe in '34 they were clutch head) diagonally across the tag.

Most 1/2 ton bodies were built by Commercial Division of Chevrolet (Indianapolis). Some were built by other commercial body companies. Hercules probably made the most that were not built by Chevrolet.
