On my 1930 I have 2 oil lines that runs from the oil dist. One goes to the oil pressure gauge and the other I guess runs through a hole in the block to the valve rocker shaft. This is where I believe I'm leaking oil out the side of the block.

My question is, was there any type of seal where this line enters the block????

PS, I'm sure this has been asked many times so bear with me. Thank you, Larry.

There is no seal at this location. When looking at the left (drivers) side of the engine the rocker arm oil line goes through the block (between #3 and #4 cylinder) and then goes up to the rocker arm shafts. When the oil line passes through the center of the block it must dip down a little (on the right side) so any oil running down the outside of the line drips into the push rod area and does not follow the oil line and leak out from the left side of the block.

Hi Larry,

About a year ago, a similar problem was discussed. Turned out to be a missing tube to return excess oil to the crankcase:

I will check to see if my oil return line is missing.

Bingo, we have a winner. I took my covers off today and sure enough the oil return tube was missing..

Easy fix. I guess no one would sell this tube ???

I will probably have to make one from copper tubing.

Larry,

Glad to hear you found the problem and it was minor. I don't know of anyone who sells this tube. When I had my '30 motor rebuilt we found the one in there had been made out of a rolled up piece of sheet metal. The machinist fabricated a new one.

Be sure you do both. First,the oil return tube, which will carry most of the oil down, but which can also have a little oil running down the outside of the tube. Then second, get that little bend to make a low point in the oil line, so drips have to happen there on the push rod side of the block.
