I have a 41 with the 6 volt still in it
pretty much the original set up
I would like to know how you know IF your voltage regulator is working, and if its charging the battery correctly

thanks

Are you having problems with starting due to low battery? What makes you wonder about your charging system?

Observing the amp-meter will most likely answer your question. If you turn on an accessory or headlights the needle should move rapidly into the - (negative)or discharge area. Racing the engine should move the needle toward the + (positive) charge area. The regulator may not be adjusted properly, but the information above will tell you if the generator and regulator is functioning.

Wow. Glad this topic came up as I have some questions about this. Now if Im at idle, with NO accessorys on, my needle stays in the middle. At night while Im driving with the lights on at idle, it points to discharge, but as soon as I start driving it points to charge. So this NORMAL?

Yes-the generator does not "charge" at low engine speeds.

when I first start mine the needle will move slightly to the right, a nd when Im driving it usually stays to the middle unless I turn on the lights then it will go to the right just a little and return to the center, mine has never shown discharge, it just wont turn the starter at all
