OK. This one is for our 'Guru' ChevNut and for all the other owners of the "orphan" 40 chev, of which, I've noticed there seems to be a lot more lately.

I need to replace the original motor and transmission mounts on my 40 master deluxe 4-door sedan (the usual symptoms, non-clutch related - it's new - clunking vibrations in reverse and starting on a hill, etc.). The problem is that there seems to be two choices for both the front pair and clutch housing to frame side mount cushions (and brackets).

For example, The Filling Station lists "756056-7" and "377928" for the side mounts and cushions and "3659291" and another un-numbered one (catalog # CV-241) for the front pair. They are decidedly different. Does anyone know which is correct for an unmodified 40 Master Deluxe 2-door sedan? Thankfully, there seems to be only one for the Transmission mount which, incidentally is a fraction of the F T price from NAPA.

I would appreciate any input on this.

Original side mounts on 37 passenger cars relied on rubber's adhesion to steel for motor's side torque.
Replacement is "Z" shaped so won't pull apart as easy. I believe 40 passenger cars are similar.
Good Luck!!

The original side motor mounts for 1937-47 were the Retangular 377928 mount. In 1948 they switched to the Z shaped 756057 mount-and they also can be used in 1937-47 cars. The the newer mount controll the twist or the torque reaction of the engine better. There are also two different front mounts.Either one will work fine-they were used for different applications thru the years. The 3693425 was used in most cars and is correct for a 1940.The straight front axle cars from 1936-39 used the other mount as well as the 1950-51 Power Glides. One must be a little "softer" than the other but have never figured out the difference.

By the way - your car is a 2 door - not a 4 door

Chevgene,

Duh! ----! All these years I thought it was a
4-door. Not really. The 2-door made it more difficult for those co-eds to escape from the back seat.

Chevgene and Lou,

Seriously though, thanks guys. I apparently got lucky and ordered the right ones from NAPA.
