Hi, I'm interested in any information available thru researching my engine casting number, which is 2428189 (The 1 looks like the capitol letter I, but I assume it's a 1). Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, That number does not appear to be a casting number. Could that be the number stamped on the engine number pad?

Hi Ray, That number was stamped on a flat surface to the left of the distributor.

Suggest you take another look at your engine block and find a number "cast" on the block and post it here. While you are at it, look for a date code and then do the same for the head.

What you are looking at is the serial number. Look just below that on the block and you will see a large GM with numbers below it. That is the casting number. It should be 838941. For casting numbers, look at web site: http://la.znet.com/~c1937/Cast.htm The letter in front of the a is a small ell, not a one. Watch the upper/lower cases. They have to be exact.
