Hi, I'm interested in any information available thru researching my engine casting number, which is 2428189 (The 1 looks like the capitol letter I, but I assume it's a 1). Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,

That number does not appear to be a casting number. Could that be the number stamped on the engine number pad?

Hi Ray, That number was stamped on a flat surface to the left of the distributor.

Suggest you take another look at your engine block and find a number "cast" on the block and post it here. While you are at it, look for a date code and then do the same for the head.

The 1939 engine serial number of "2428189" appears to be in line with the engines that were manufactured in Flint. The serial numbers for Flint in 1939 ran from "1915447" to "2697267". laugh laugh laugh

What you are looking at is the serial number. Look just below that on the block and you will see a large GM with numbers below it. That is the casting number. It should be 838941. For casting numbers, look at web site: http://la.znet.com/~c1937/Cast.htm The letter in front of the a is a small ell, not a one. Watch the upper/lower cases. They have to be exact.
