If you're tired of over revving your engine, the best resolution is a higher ratio Ring and Pinion gear. It improves mileage, increases engine life and makes for a quieter ride.
Larry Jackson, 805-441-2627, Is considering making ring & pinion gears with 3.36 ratio for 34 - 39 half ton trux. it also fits 34 - 36 Master Deluxe passenger cars. If you're interested, please call and let him know. He needs a run of 25 before he can start. If no one is interested, it won't happened.
If you have a 1930 - 32 Chevy, he has already made 3.50 gears for those, with many accolades from the purchasers.

It is not necessary to reproduce "high-speed" gears for a 1940.The 3.73 gears from a Master 85 or the 3.55 gears from a 1950-54 Power Glide can be installed.Installing a complete rear end from a Master 85 requires the least amount of work.

Chevgene,

Thanks. I have a line on a complete rear-end and torque tube from a Master 85, if my friend from our local club ever get around to "Rodding" the Master 85 he has. Of course, I will most likely have to install new brake linings, etc., - again - when he gets ready. Of course, I already have one of his rear brake drums on my car, Mine was grooved beyond repair.

37 - 54 passenger cars have hypoid Ring & Pinion that are interchangeable except for torque tube length. . .
34 - 36 Master Deluxe passenger cars and 34 - 39 half ton commercial use spiral beval Ring & Pinion that are interchangible. These are the 3.36 gears that he intends to cut. . .
I've personally achieved this ratio by more expensive and less reliable means, and the first trip down the road makes it all worth while. . .
Happy touring, Lou
